SADF & SANDF - Nutria Brown - Large -  Pattern 83 Back Pack / RuckSack ( Grootsak) with frame.

Condition :-  Complete & in great condition - no markings - all zips working.

In the early 1980's the SADF updated its uniform and equipment based on operational experience. Hence the Back Pack with other items of  webbing became  known collectively as "Combat Webbing, Pattern 83".

Designed for long range patrols the back pack had a recommended load in the region of 20 kg but could accomadate up to 35 kg if so needed.

Originally issued with a metal frame designed to assist paratroopers . This however was discarded in many instances to lighten the load and improve on comfort. In time to come the back packs were issued without the frame except for the paratroopers.
