Author - Bartle Bull

Publisher - Viking; 1988

A very good quarto hardback book with a very good dustjacket.

383 pages including: Glossary, Bibliography. Illustration Acknowledgements and the Index.

3 maps in the early pages: Southern Africa in the 1830s; South Central Africa in the late nineteenth century and East Africa after the First World War.

Many illustrations throughout, both colour and monochrome.

"The history of the great African Safaris. It is the story of 150 years of the ultimate adventure, from the first safari in 1836, as Cornwallis Harris walked across the Transvaal with his double-barrelled rifle and ox wagon, discovering the hunter's Garden of Eden, to the last of the great professional hunters, as they struggle today to carry on their tradition in the swamps of Tanzania and the high forests of Ethiopia".

The dustjacket spineband is sunned; now in a loose protective plastic overwrap. Grey endpapers. Light foxing spots to the second free endpapers.
