SAFE CLIMBING AND CAMPING IN SOUTH AFRICA by Roy Preedy

This is an invaluable guide that will be appreciated by amateur mountaineers of all ages and all kinds - the regular rock-climber, the occasional rambler, the weekend camper, the picnicker enjoying a day's outing 'away from it all'.  Roy Preedy writes from a wealth of climbing experience that has included participation in a number of mountain rescues.  He begins with a timely warning: the mountain should never be underestimated, nor should you tackle it without being in a reasonable state of physical fitness.

Then follows sound advice on the clothing and equipment you will need; on the hazards to be prepared for, and how to avoid them; on some technical aspects of rock-climbing; and on how to get yourself out of trouble if things go wrong.  There's also a section on the lighter side of it all, and one on correct mountain behavior.

Each section of the book includes a succinct summary of the most important points made.  Numerous sketches emphasise the various points and there are photographs in monochrome and full colour.
