This book contains twelve fine coloured plates of famous 19th century square-riggers, with the author providing an introduction and a brief description of each vessel. The plates are reproduced from rare coloured prints and old paintings and are designed either to be kept in book form or to be removed for framing. The pictures show old East Indiamen, clippers, whalers and other square-riggers. The twelve vessels are : HIGHFLYER, ETHIOPIAN, SWIFTSURE, WEST AUSTRALIAN, LORD LOWTHER, SIR DAVID SCOTT, ANGLESEY, WINDSOR CASTLE, MADAGASCAR, TAEPING & ARIEL. The remaining two plates are entitled : Whaling off the Cape of Good Hope and South Sea Whale Fishery.
