Saint Christopher is often depicted  carrying Christ Child. This is the well known image of the saint who is turned to for safe travels. St. Christopher is a very popular saint and his  intercession is invoked by people travelling. There used to be a special day assigned in the calendar to remember this special saint. His feast is no longer celebrated worldwide. This saint, legend has was a giant who carried people across a river. According to legend, one day a  child asked to be carried, and in  the middle of the river the child became so heavy that Christopher staggered under the burden. He  was told that he had borne upon his back the world and Him who created it. this is how he is normally portrayed in the Saint Christopher medal.  In Greek, the name means Christ bearer.
