A brown salt-glazed ginger beer bottle for Josiah Russell. The bottle is 19.5cm high and 7.5cm in diameter - slightly larger than the usual blob-top ginger beer.

The company Josiah Russell does not appear in the Lastovicas'book on South african Ginger Beers, but we dig and find so many of them that I am sure the company must have traded generally in South Africa. Josiah Russell appears in entries on Google, dating from the mid 1800s. If anyone knows more about the company I would love to hear from them.

The bottle is in nice condition, with some very evident finger prints in the glaze! The pottery stamp dates it to 1914 (exactly like one I sold earlier!)

The bottle on sale is the one on the left - next to it is a smaller version, (which is not included with the large bottle!)
