Deciduous tree or large shrub,15-30
ft tall found at forest-edge locations. Likes full sun, attract birds and butterflies.
Dense clusters of white flowers are followed by blue berries. The berries make very nice wine and jellies.
How to germinate: take one cup hot tap water, add seed, let cool and soak 24 hours. Seed
should swell. If not scarify by rubbing seed with a small amount of
coarse sand between your hands for 10 seconds. Use a plate to catch any
fallen material. Re-soak using warm water for 24 hours. Sow 5 mm deep
in seedling medium of equal parts peat and sand. Keep moist. Warm
stratify 30 days at 20 C; then cold stratify 90 days at 4C. Should
germinate under Spring like conditions.
