Samsung HD103SI 1TB Spinpoint F2 EcoGreen Serial ATA Hard Drives

We reviewed Samsung’s latest green drive, the Spinpoint F2 EcoGreen, in June. And we also used the drive when we compared three consecutive hard drive product generations to see how drives have been improving.Despite its 5,400 RPM spindle speed, the F2 EG drives deliver maximum read throughput of 107-113 MB/s, depending on the capacity point, and low power consumption across all our four tests. However, the F2EG was not designed to deliver top performance in demanding applications. Other drives outperform it in many PCMark Vantage tests, as well as I/O performance benchmarks.This time we're looking at the 1 TB model of the Spinpoint F2 EcoGreen, but there still are 500 GB and 1.5 TB capacity points available, which you can find in the benchmark charts and in our Hard Drive Charts. While the 500 GB and 1.5 TB models deliver similar throughput, the 500 GB entry-level drive is actually a bit faster. A look at the I/O benchmarks reveals that the 1.0 TB drive is the best choice for these workload types. Finally, the 1 and 1.5 TB variants are faster than the 500 GB model in most of the PCMark Vantage HDD test runs. Still, all of them are impressive in terms of power consumption.
