Samsung's Z400v is pitched as a 3G business mobile, but it's actually better for people who want a few business extras on their normal phone.
Overall the design is good and fits snugly in the palm of your hand.
The controls are a bit small if you've got big thumbs though.
It's a slider phone, so the faceplate slides up to reveal the number pad.
There is a helpful ridge so you can do this without mashing the buttons.
The springy mechanism on the slider itself is strangely satisfying.
You may find yourself fidgeting with it, like I did, while you're waiting for boring people to stop talking.
There are buttons to access applications you use often as well as the camera on the right side.
The camera button is a bit irritating because you have to hold it down to turn the camera on, instead of just pressing it.
Just pressing it switches the camera from facing in to facing out.
The 2-inch screen is good although the glossy coat may put some people off because it's a magnet for smudges.
Photo buffs will like the 2 megapixel camera, which is surprisingly good.
There's no flash, however, so snapping pics in low light isn't really an option.
There's a Micro-SD slot to add more memory.
Battery life is good at a little over 3 days.
The phone has some interesting extras, like a mobile tracker to help recover a lost or stolen phone.
This sends a text to a nominated number if the Sim card is replaced, telling you the new Sim card's number and letting you track it down.
The Z400v is being pitched as a business tool, and has a voice recorder, document viewer and a mobile printing application (to printers with Bluetooth) to give it street cred.
Still, I'm not convinced.
Vodafone NZ isn't supporting push email (a la Blackberry and others), and without it you'll have to log on to see if you have emails.
This is alright for some people, but a busy executive probably needs to keep in closer contact in case they're needed.
That said, it may be a better option for people who don't want to become slaves to their inbox.
And at the price it's a good deal even if it's bought only for play.
You are bidding on the phone and charger with battery.
