Sir Arthur Wynne Morgan Bryant wrote a three-volume biography of Samuel Pepys, Volume I – The Man in the Making, Volume II – The Years of Peril and Volume III – The Saviour of the Navy, which were completed in 1938 and regarded as "one of the great historical biographies in the language" by John Kenyon.
