SAMURAI WAKIZASHI SWORD WITH DRAGON MOTIF DECORATED GUARD AND SCABBARD - 79CM LONG
A BEAUTIFULLY DECORATIVE SAMURAI WAKIZASHI SWORD. THE WAKIZASHI (SHORT BLADE) WAS AN BACKUP SWORD USED BY THE SAMURAI AND WORN ALONGSIDE WITH THE LONGER KATANA. ALSO CALLED THE MINI KATANA WEARING THEM TOGETHER WAS A SIGN THAT THE PERSON WAS A SAMURAI AND WERE CALLED DAISHO. IT WAS USED FOR CLOSE QUARTERS FIGHTING, TO BEHEAD A DEFEATED OPPONENT AND USED IN THE RITUAL JAPANESE SAMURAI SUICIDE CALLED SEPPUKU.
THE SORI (BLADE) IS MADE FROM STAINLESS STEEL AND POLISHED AND DISPLAYS A BEAUTIFUL HAMON (EDGE PATTERN). THE HA (EDGE) OF BLADE IS BLUNT BUT THE KISSAKI (POINT) OF BLADE IS SHARP. HENCE NOTE THE SWORD CAN STILL CUT INTO SOFT OBJECTS LIKE A WATERMELON AND THE SHARP POINT WILL SURELY PENETRATE A BODY IF NEEDED IN SELF DEFENCE.
THIS WAKIZASHIS TSUKA (HANDLE) IS DECORATED WITH A DRAGON MOTIF ON TSUBA (HAND GUARD), KASHIRA (POMMEL) AND ON THE SAYA (SCABBARD). HANDLE IS TRADITIONAL LIKE PLASTIC WITH NYLON BAND. SHEATH IS PAINTED WITH A BLACK LACQUER COATING
PROPABLY MADE IN TAIWAN.

MAIN TANTO SWORD PARTS
A sword has three main parts.
Sori Blade Steel component of the katana which is used for cutting. The hamon or "edge pattern" is a visible effect created on the blade by the hardening process.
Tsuka The handle of the sword. The tsuba is the guard of the sword. In general, the tsuba is round. Furthermore, it is quite common to decorate the tsuba. The main purpose of the tsuba was to protect the hand of the wielder from cuts.The kashira is the last part of the Tsuka or the pommel.
Saya The saya is the scabbard of the katana to protect the blade. Normally it is manufactured from very lightweight wood with a coat of lacquer on the exterior. The sageo is a hanging cord made of silk, nylon, cotton or leather. The textile is passed through the hole of the kurikata which is then used to attach the scabbard to the belt of the wielder.
