ON AUCTION IS A GLASS SAILING SHIP IN A BOTTLE MODEL THAT FEATURES A REAL 15TH CENTURY SPANISH SAILING SHIP THE SANTA MARIA.
 
The Santa Maria was the flagship of Christopher Columbus on his 1492 voyage, during which he famously landed in the Americas. It was a large carrack, or "nao," a type of cargo ship that was slower than the two accompanying caravels, the Nina and Pinta but still suitable for ocean travel. The ship ran aground on a reef near Hispaniola on Christmas Day 1492, and its timbers were used to build the first settlement, La Navidad, before the ship sank.
