This is a 2nd type Operator badge.
These badges were never officially numbered. Only the 1st type badges were numbered.
Only the 1st type badges were officially issued with a number. The 2nd type badges were initially not issued with numbers. If a 2nd (or 3rd) type is found with a number, check the type of numbering. It will be engraved (privately done) and not a stamped number. Not all current operator`s have numbered badges like SA Special Forces operators.
Operator badges are only awarded after serving 2 years, as an Operator in the STF. They are not issued after selection, like the SADF Special Forces Operator badge.
This Operator badge has a 3 pin construction.
