This brass numberplate belonged to SAR Class 6B steam locomotive no. 513, the 6B locomotives being delivered from the makers (Neilson, Reid & Co. of Glasgow) in 1897. The 6th Class locomotives were used in all parts of South Africa, except Natal, and gave a very good account of themselves. They held a monopoly of the Cape suburban services until electrification in 1928. P&P R95.
