SAR HO CLASS 1E ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE # E6

The Prototype:

The locos were built by Metropolitan-Vickers, Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works and Vickers in Britain and Switzerland for the South African Railways and Harbours Board. They were landed in South Africa from 1924 and entered service from early 1925, after the first electrified section was completed. They had operational lives of up to 55 years before retirement in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The eventual fleet of 172 locomotives was built for the SAR in seven series by four manufacturers over a period of twenty years

The Model:

Scale: H.O. (1:87). The body is cast out of resin. The chassis is Athearn fitted with a 5-pole motor with 2 fly wheels. Kadee couplers are fitted. Brass number plates. Comes in a wooden box
