Sarracenia Hybrid Seeds

Hybrid Pitcher Plant Seeds

Sarracenia grow in a diverse number of habitats. Each species have unique pitcher, flower and growing characteristics.

All the species in the genus can hybridize easily with one another, and what is also quite interesting and unusual, is that the seed made by these hybrids are fertile.

Because they can hybridize so easily with one another and also back cross with the parent plants, and that there are so many naturally occurring hybrids, it can be argued that a pure Sarracenia species does not actually exist in the wild.

There can be many Sarracenia species growing in one site. This results in a large variety of hybrids occurring naturally in the wild. At these sites you will find pure parent plants and plants which are clearly hybrids. Simple hybrids may or may not show characters intermediately between the parents. Over time, the hybrids can cross with one another or even backcross with the parent. When this happens, it is called a hybrid swarm. At some sites there can be so much hybridization that it can be difficult to find the pure species from which the hybrids were formed. Hybrids can also grow with much more vigor than pure species and can quickly outgrow their parents.

Many of these hybrids can be quite spectacular. Horticultural hybrids can be equally spectacular and easier to grow than pure forms.

When growing hybrids you never really know what you are going to get.

In general, the most healthy and beautiful ones are saved to be kept as a new hybrid or to be further crossed with others.

Follow general guidelines for growing Sarracenia when making crosses and growing hybrids from seed.

You will receive seed from a complex, horticulturally created Hybrid. The pictures above are some examples of plants you might expect to get from these seeds.

The bid amount is for 1 Seed

We'll supply you with all the germination & care instructions.
