VINTAGE 1920 - 1950 LOT /SET OF TWO FRENCH SARREGUEMINES DIGOIN DESIGNER DISHES - SULTAN PATTERN

SARREGUEMINES,  A FRENCH MANUFACTURER WHICH BEGUN IN 1790.  ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES SLOWED THE MANUFACTURER DOWN AND IN 1800 THE FACTORY WAS TAKEN OVER BY BAVARIAN PAUL UTSCHNEIDER WHO INTRODUCED NEW DECORATION TECHNIQUES AND EVEN SUPPLIED NAPOLEON I.   IN 1838 THE COMPANY BECAME ASSOCIATED WITH VILLEROY & BOCH.  IN 1871 A SON, PAUL DE GEIGER TOOK OVER MANAGEMENT AND BUILT TWO NEW COMPANIES AT DIGOIN AND VITRY-LE-FRANCOIS.  IN 1913 PAUL DE GEIGER PASSED AWAY AND THE COMPANY SPLIT IN TWO, ONE COMPANY IN SARREGUEMINES AND THE OTHER IN FRENCH TERRITORY (The Sarreguemines territory was being controlled at the time by Germany).   IN 1918 THE THREE FACTORIES, SARREGUEMINES, DIGOIN AND VITRY-LE-FRANCOIS UNITED AND WERE MANAGED BY THE CAZAL FACTORY.  DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR THE FAIENCE FACTORY WAS SEQUESTRATED AND TAKEN OVER BY VILLEROY & BOCH AND IN 1945 PRODUCTION OF MAJOLICA AND PORCELAIN AT THESE FACTORIES CEASED

EACH OF THESE TWO LOVELY SARREGUEMINES DISHES WERE MANUFACTURED AT THE DIGOIN FACTORIES AND WOULD THEREFORE HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED BEFORE THE VILLEROY & BOCH PERIOD IN 1939.  THE DISHES ARE EACH DECORATED IN A GENTLE GREEN ART DECO PATTERN UPON THE RIMS AND AN AUTUMN LEAF PATTERN IN THE CENTER.  THE PATTERN IS CALLED THE "SULTAN" PATTERN
