This the first truly comprehensive book about the Rhodesian Special Air Service (SAS ).
It commences with the contribution of individual Rhodesians to the SAS during World War Two. There is a comprehensive section on the Rhodesian contribution to the Malayan Emergency as C Squadron The Malayan Scouts (SAS) which was later redesignated 22 SAS Regiment. Included in this section are articles by Ron Reid-Daly who later was the founding CO of The Selous Scouts.
C Squadron was disbanded when the unit returned from Malaya in 1953 but was resurrected in 1961 when Rhodesia was known as Southern Rhodesia and was part of the Federation. Again there is a comprehensive section on the activities of C Squadron during this period.
The bulk of the book deals with C Squadrons exploits in the period from about 1970 up until the independence of Zimbabwe in 1980. There is also a small section devoted to the Rhodesian SAS Associaton.
The book is extremely well illustrated with close to 1000 photos (colour and B&W), diagrams, maps, tables and line drawings. The book has a huge amount of detail in respect of personalities, uniforms/dress, weapons, equipment, insignia/decoration and has Nominal Rolls and Rolls of Honour.
It is a glimpse into a unit that was regarded at the time as one of the best in the world. It is also relatively unique in the sense that the co-authors allow the men to speak and it is their voices that we hear on the pages.
