Commonly known as : Satin Pothos
Botanical Name: Scindapsus Pictus
Satin Pothos (Scindapsus pictus) is a popular trailing plant known for its velvety green leaves patterned with soft silver markings. The foliage has a subtle shimmer that sets it apart from other trailing plants, and it works beautifully in modern interiors, hanging pots, or draped from shelves. It's also relatively slow-growing, which means it stays neat and manageable while still filling out its pot over time.
This plant is perfect for beginners or anyone wanting something with a little more texture and character than the standard green pothos. It thrives on a bit of neglect and still rewards you with beautiful, cascading growth.
Light requirements:
Bright, indirect light will bring out the best in those silver markings. It can handle medium light too, but variegation may fade in lower light conditions. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.
💧 Watering:
Water when the top 35 cm of soil feels dry. Satin Pothos likes a balancenot too wet, not too dry. Overwatering can cause yellow leaves and root rot, so make sure your pot drains well.
🌡 Humidity & Temperature:
Average room humidity is fine, but it'll appreciate a bit more during dry seasons. A light misting now and then helps, especially in winter. Keep it in temperatures between 1826°C and away from cold draughts.
🪴 Potting mix:
For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or you can create your own potting mix using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil combined with Perlite and Bark Chips. Repot every 12 years or when the plant outgrows its container.
🌱 Feeding:
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a controlled release fertiliser or a gentle organic fertiliser. No feeding needed in winter.
🐛 Pests & Problems:
Satin Pothos is generally pest-resistant, but mealybugs and spider mites may appear if it's under stress. Wipe leaves occasionally and treat with insecticidal spray if needed.
Pruning & propagation:
Trim back any leggy stems to encourage fuller growth. It's easy to propagatejust snip a stem with a few nodes and root it in water or moist soil.
