Description

A very attractive Satsuma lidded jar which depicts 5 ladies at leisure (pattern repeated on other side). Height is 16 cm (lid included). Extensively decorated in transfer patterns, hand coloured, glazed and with gilt over glaze. First half 20th century. No markings.

Notes

The lid is somewhat loose fitting and was probably originally wax sealed onto the jar to preserve the contents. The pattern and colouring matches that of the jar and it appears to be the original lid.

A lovely little jar. Beautiful for the display cabinet.

Condition

The item (both lid and jar) is in excellent undamaged condition. Gilt on the jar is unrubbed and there is some rubbing of the gilt on the lower edge of the lid.
