Here on auction we have a original issue SA SF (Recce) copy camo East German falling rain & scarce big size SF (Recce) copy camo DDR falling rain "strictarn" XL bush-jacket in absolute mint condition - a period item sewn in the EG recce copy camo cloth - obviously made for use across the border to mimic the typical uniform side-cap head-dress seen in some communist inspired and supported Southern African states (police and/or army).
The Recces copy camo programme produced approx 20 copies of enemy uniforms likely to be encountered in Southern Africa in the early 1980's - two sets of each copied enemy uniform were made - one in typical enemy cut/ style mimicing the exact details even down to the weight of the fabric, the sewn style eg. pockets shape etc, and the buttons! The 2nd set produced was in a typical SADF uniform cut of the time but obviously then in the respective copy camo patterns - this X-Large bush-jacket is in the SADF cut/ style similar to the issued 32 Bn camo bush-jackets of the same era and also only has only the two top pockets and the waist and hem draw-strings.
These copy camo items were made for Recce psuedo ops/ cross border raids/ false flag ops and/ or strategic recce missions deep into enemy terrertory by small team members.
The Recce's would often use enemy uniforms to gain tactical advantage at close quarters if discovered by the enemy and wearing a foreign uniform would give the small groups of SF a tactical advantage in the first few seconds - a key element for small teams survival when operating deep behind enemy lines in their own backyard so to speak. The vital seconds and element of surprise gained as a result of being clothed and dressed as an enemy soldier themselves was vital to many a teams quick and lucky escape and allowing a quick get-away and/ or breaking-of-contact allowing the team a better chance of survival if discovered ......
