Scarce 'Castle of Good Hope VOC' Crystal Wine Glass

This very good quality limited edition, 'Orrefors' crystal wine glass was made to commemorate the 300 year anniversary of the 'Castle of Good Hope'. The glass is beautifully etched with a picture of the building, has an unusual tall stem and the foot of the glass is marked in English & Afrikaans '1679 to 1979' 'CASTLE OF GOOD HOPE' 'VOC' (Dutch East India Company). This glass is etched on the base '44/300 1979'. This glass is part of an original set of six glasses and one decanter, of which I only have three glasses. (There were only 300 of these sets made by 'Orrefors'). The crystal glass stands 18cm high, with a top and base diameter of 7,6cm. It has a nice weight and is in excellent condition.

If required there are three glasses.

NOTE: The Cape Town Castle was built between 1666 and 1679 by the 'Dutch East India Company'. It served as a stop-over for ships sailing the Spice Route. It is also the oldest colonial building in South Africa.

Please feel free to email me with any queries. Please look closely at the pictures provided as they are of the actual item and form a vital part of the description.
