Scarce 'Georgian Glass Rummer' (C.1820)
This very early, hand-blown glass rummer from the early 1800's, has an unusual hand engraved repetitive 'Fir-tree' pattern around the top. The rummer has a large plain bowl, with an engraved border, which sits on a short capstan stem, and stands on a wide round domed foot with a ground out, but rough pontil underneath. The rummer is in excellent condition and stands 13,8cm high, with a foot diameter of 9cm, a rim diameter of 9,5cm and weighs 370g.
Note: In England, in the 18th and 19th century, a 'rummer' was the name given to a large drinking glass for wine with a wide bowl and short stem, sitting on a circular domed or square foot.
