SCARCE!!! Collectible South African art book, IRMIN HENKEL BY M HENKEL & K SKAWRAN, 1983, first edition

"I have been unable to decide whether to become a physician or an artist (painter). As a result of this uncertainty, I have pursued both careers..."

Henkel, a German who emigrated to South Africa in 1951, was both an orthopedic surgeon and artist, and this biography by his wife Margot spans his early years as part of the fanatical Hitler Youth, to his years in South Africa up to his sudden death in 1977. The book includes a comprehensive list of his portraits, drawings and paintings in chronological order. Book condition: internals very good; the dust jacket has 3 small tears on the front and 2 small tears on the rear all on the edges, however these are easily repairable and do not detract from the overall condition of the book which is in very fine condition, with no shelf wear or fading. The book is protected with a Brodart plastic sleeve. No marks or inscriptions.
