Scarce Solid Silver 'Omega Watch Box' (1950's)
This very good quality, engine-turned sterling silver 'Omega' watch box is rectangular in shape, with a hinged lid, and a cedar lined interior. It has a large 'Omega' logo or symbol in relief, on the front and was made in 1957 for the 'Omega' watch company, by silversmiths 'Adie Brothers' in Birmingham, England. The silver box is in great condition for its age and measures 15,6cm x8,4cm x 3cm and weighs 269g. Other than the English hallmarks on the side, the base is stamped 'Made in England, 925 Sterling'. I came across two of these scarce boxes for sale on eBay, one for R12000, and the other for R26000.
Note: This silver box accompanied the sale of the 'Constellation Calendar De Lux' and 'Calendar Grand Lux' models, which were 'Omega's' premium offerings in the late1950's. It was then suggested and promoted by Omega to be used as a cigarette box.
