The Cyprus 18 Piastres coin from 1901 is a fascinating piece of history that reflects the colonial era of Cyprus. Minted in London, this silver coin features a portrait of Queen Victoria, symbolizing the British influence on the island during that time. In 1878, Cyprus was placed under British administration as a result of the Cyprus Convention, which granted control of the island to the British Empire. The British colonial period in Cyprus lasted until the island gained independence in 1960. The 18 Piastres coin was part of the currency system used in Cyprus during the British colonial rule and was a common denomination in circulation at the time. It serves as a tangible reminder of the historical ties between Cyprus and the British Empire.
