Schaub-Lorenz German 1963 Weekend Automatic T40KS (Grey Housing) Radio Turns On Works Intermittently on MW
FOR SALE, AN OLD 1963/1964 SCHAUB-LORENZ GERMAN MADE WEEKEND AUTOMATIC T40KS RADIO. THIS WAS PART OF THEIR NOW FAMOUS TRAVEL COMPANION RADIOS PRODUCED IN THE 1950S AND 1960S. IT HAS A GREY HOUSING AND GRILL SPEAKER IN FRONT. IT TURNS ON WITH LIGHT SHOWING. WORKS INTERMITTENTLY ON MW WITH BATTERIES (NOT INCLUDED). WAVEBANDS: MW, SW AND FM SIZE: 26CM WIDE 18CM HIGH 7.5CM DEEP CONDITION: STRUCTURALLY ALL BUTTONS AND KNOBS WORK. BOTH AERIALS IN TACTS BUT SITS A BIT LOOSELY. TESTED THE RADIO WITH D-CELL BATTERIES (NOT INCLUDED) AND IT IS STILL WORKING INTERMITTENTLY (ON AND OFF) ON THE MEDIUM WAVE CHANNEL 702KHZ PICKING UP WHAT I THINK WAS LM RADIO STATION. IT PLAYS MUSIC FOR A WHILE AND THEN CUTS OUT FOR SOME REASON IT MIGHT BE THE LOOSE AERIALS. ( I HAVE A VIDEO OF SOUND IF NEEDED). I COULD NOT PICK UP THE FM BROADCAST FREQUENCIES. IF YOU ARE USING A PORTABLE RADIO, YOU DO NOT USUALLY NEED TO EXTEND THE TELESCOPIC AERIAL FOR MW FREQUENCIES, AS THAT IS ONLY FOR FM SERVICES. MEDIUM WAVE: Medium Wave is a radio wave with a wavelength between 100 and 1000 metres. The medium wave system was used all over the world initially to broadcast news, music etc. to local listeners. IF YOU ARE USING A PORTABLE RADIO, YOU DO NOT USUALLY NEED TO EXTEND THE TELESCOPIC AERIAL FOR MW FREQUENCIES, AS THAT IS ONLY FOR FM SERVICES. For AM and LW the aerial is normally built in to the radio itself. To improve reception, the whole radio needs to be rotated to get the best signal. Short wave radio systems are used for long distance communication. The signals are transmitted at high frequencies and are able to travel long distances because they are reflected by the ionosphere. Medium wave radio systems are used for local broadcasting. The frequencies of the signals are lower, so they can only travel shorter distances. FM radio systems are similar to medium wave systems but use higher frequencies and are used for broadcasting high quality audio.
SCHAUB-LORENZ RADIOS (1921-1980): In 1921 Georg von Schaub founded the Schaub Electricity Company in Berlin Charlottenburg. In 1923 the first radio devices (detector receivers) are produced. In 1925 the G. Schaub Apparatebau - Gesellschaft mbH is founded and in 1934 they move the company to Pforzheim. After a bomb attack in 1945, the Pforzheim factory burns down completely. 90% of production is destroyed. Because of the Berlin Blockade, Lorenz manufactured all devices at Schaub in Pforzheim from July 1950. From 1955 the company is called Schaub Lorenz. From 1980 the factory in Rastatt is closed. Radio equipment is manufactured in Bochum for a short time, but from 1980 onwards it is only purchased from the Far East. In 1988 the sold its consumer electronics division to Finnish company Nokia.
