A very rare Scottish silver sauce ladle, bright cut and in the Celtic point design. The ladle was made in 1785 in Edinburgh, the maker's mark is unclear but possibly William Dempster, and carries the rare incuse duty mark used only for 18 months from 1784 to 1786. The ladle measures 18cm long, weighs 40 grams and is in good used condition, a very minor knock to the bowl does not detract. It is monogrammed TJ or IJ (I think). A lovely addition to any collection of scottish silver.
