Such a work would indeed be monumental and very difficult to compile. The present book covering only the gastropods attempts to some extent to fill this gap, dealing as it does with over 900 species, all of which are illustrated. All the common sea-shells and many of the rare or unusual forms are included, some of which have not been illustrated since their first description."
