The seas that surround the shores of Southern Africa are rich in fascinating and sometimes bizarre sea-shell fauna. Of the approximately 3000 species, perhaps two-thirds are found nowhere else in the world, while most of the remainder are topical invaders from the western Indian Ocean, an area that has been little studied until now. In this book over 600 species are covered in detail, including most of the commoner ones and many of the more interesting rarities. Most species have been illustrated in full color, while over 200 supplementary text-figures, emphasize fine details, and diagnostic structures.
