SEAFOAM BLUE AQUAMARINE GEMSTONE LARGE 9,60CT WITH BEAUTIFUL CUSHION CUT
A LOVELY 9,60CT (1,92G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY WEIGHT WITH 5 TO GET CARATS) BLUE AQUAMARINE GEMSTONE WITH A BEAUTIFUL CUSHION CUT. COMES WITH A BEAUTIFUL PERSPEX PRESENTATION CASE AND VELVET BAG. THE FOUR BLUE FACETED GEMSTONES THAT ARE MOST OFTEN SEEN IN COMMERCIAL JEWELRY ARE IN ORDER OF HOW EXSPENSIVE THEY ARE: TOPAZ, AQUAMARINE, TANZANITE AND SAPPHIRE. Blue Topaz are the most affordable. Then comes Aquamarine which was considered sacred by the Romans and Greeks. Tanzanites are exspensive due to its rarity - The only commercial source of the stone is Tanzania and the worlds production only comes from an area that is barely 6 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide.. Even though a tanzanite is much rarer than a sapphire, the latter is more expensive because of its beauty and eternal association with royalty.
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN CHANTEBURI THAILAND WITH THE ORIGEN OF THE STONE INDICATED AS MOZAMBIQUE. IT HAS A VVS (EYE CLEAR) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT IS FREE OF INCLUSIONS AS SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL AD UNHEATED GEMSTONE.
IT APPEARS TO BE A REAL AQUAMARINE GEMSTONE AS IT PASSED OR GAVE AN UNCLEAR ON THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM: PASSED SCRATCH TEST: IT SCRATCHES GLASS EASILY IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS. (MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 AQUAMARINE 7.5-8.0 QUARTZ 7.0-7.5) PASSED ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: NO UV REACTION AS IT SHOULD BE. AQUAMARINE IS INERT AND SHOWS NO FLUORENCENT REACTION. GLASS AND ALL QUARTZ VARIETIES ALSO DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT. (THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.) UNCLEAR THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER A LITTLE FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 4. AQUAMARINE (BERYL) HAS A THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF 0,013 AND A LEVEL OF 3 TO 4 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER. IT TESTED IN THE SAME RANGE AS QUARTZ WITH A THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF AROUND 0,02 WHICH NORMALLY GOES TO LEVEL 4 ON THE MIZAR TESTER. (WITH THIS TESTER GLASS MAKES NO MOVEMENT.)
SIZE: 13,9mm x 13,6mm x 9,2mm
DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT. THESE GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRIED TO VERIFY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE ANY STATEMENTS OR CLAIMS BY DOING SOME RESEARCH AND PRELIMARY TESTS ON EACH GEMSTONE.
AQUAMARINE: The name Aquamarine was derived from Latin meaning 'seawater' These gemstones were once considered sacred in Roman and Greek empires. Aquamarine is a pale-blue to light-green variety of beryl. This beautiful gem receives its coloring from trace amounts of ferrous iron. Its hues range can range from blueish green, blue-green, greenish blue, to deep blue, and its tones can vary from very light to moderately dark. You'll rarely see aquamarines darker than a Swiss blue topaz. Aquamarines can be synthsized and advanced instruments are needed to distinguish natural from created aquamarines. Most aquamarines come out of the ground with a greenish tint, but this will disappear after heating to 375° C, which leaves a pure blue color. Removing aquamarines green tinting through heat treatment is very common. In the past, this was done routinely. Nowadays, the public has started appreciating slightly green, untreated aquamarines. Brazil is the world's major source of fine aquamarine gems. Madagascar has more than 50 specific localities that produce fine, blue gem material. Other localities are Pakistan and Mozambique.
