In Zimbabwe, dogs play a crucial role in wildlife conservation, particularly in protecting endangered species like the African wild dog, also known as the painted dog. Organizations such as Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) are dedicated to conserving these unique animals. PDC works through conservation, education, and outreach programs to help painted dogs thrive despite threats like habitat loss and poaching.

One of the significant threats to painted dogs in Zimbabwe is poaching, often involving wire snares that can injure or kill these animals. To combat this, PDC has expanded its anti-poaching unit and launched community outreach campaigns to raise awareness and support from local communities. These efforts have been effective in increasing protection for painted dogs and other wildlife in areas
