If one spring snaps, is it advisable to change both, replacing both ensures balanced operation and prevents uneven wear and tear on the other so we only sell them in pairs.

Tension springs are side mounted, they lift the door from the side. These springs are only for single doors, spring sizes (kg) is based on the weight of your door, if your single door weighs 65kg and you looking to change both springs, you need two x 65kg springs.
