Senecio mandraliscae  Plants

Common Names: Blue Finger, Blue Fries, Blue Chalk Sticks

Senecio mandraliscae, also known as Kleinia mandraliscae and Senecio talinoides mandraliscae, is a spreading succulent indigenous to South Africa. It grows 30cm to 45cm tall with 8cm to 10cm long blue grey pencil-like fleshy leaves and bears small white flowers in mid-summer. It forms a dense mat with leaves angled upward from the ground. It is extremely drought tolerant but tolerates regular irrigation. For best results, plant it in full sun to light shade. It is hardy to around -9°C. It is easy to propagate from cuttings and makes a great dry groundcover. It tolerates salt breeze and full sun and bone dry soil for most of the year. It can also be grown indoors or outside in pots if needed but requires at least 2 hours of strong light to keep its bluish colour. This Senecio has beautiful glaucas finger like leaves on thick columnar stems that give it a "sea coral" look. It is a great container or garden plant for full sun to partial shade and blooms in spring with fragrant spongy creamy yellow flowers. It is drought tolerant in the ground once established. Prune it once a year to keep it in shape. It attracts butterflies, bees and hummingbirds to the garden and is also fire resistant.

These plants will be sent without pots and soil free. We'll remove the plants from the soil as it not only increases postage but also makes the parcel unstable.

Above are photos of some of the actual plants which are in 12.5cm pots.
