"Giant sequoia"
The Giant Sequoia, also known as the Sierra Redwood, is one of the most awesome species of evergreens found on Earth. It's the largest and tallest tree on Earth, with it's ability to reach height of 100m and diameter of 10m. It's age ranges from 2000-3000 years and is one the oldest species on Earth, only the Bristlecone Pine is older. Although it was once widespread, Giant sequioas now occur only in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of central California. Since 1890, Giant Sequoias have been protected n Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks, as well as in smaller individual groves. The trees are usually found at an elevation of 4900-8200 ft. There is only one species within this genus, Sequoiadendron giganteum; it has the same common name as its genus, Giant Sequoia. It's needles are scale-like with short, thick, sharp points. The needles are blue-green in color. It's cones are woody, egg-shaped, extremely hard, and 2-3 inches long. And it's bark is reddish-brown, stringy and very thick. It's hardy to zone 6. The Giant Sequoia prefers moist, well-drained soil. It also requires a lot of water. It can grow up to 1m a year. It's just a must to keep them watered and to make sure their roots don't dry out. If their roots dry out, the tree is dead. Even though the cold hardiness of this tree is Zone 6, if planted and raised in the right conditions it can be raised in Zones 3-9.

Recommended Planting instructions:

Scarification: None required. Stratification: Cold stratify for 30 days. Germination: Sow seed 1/8" deep, tamp soil, keep moist, mulch seed bed, cover seedbed with some shade.

Other: Some recommend a 24 hour pre-soak, then cold stratify for 60 days. You can also submerge in water for 1-3 weeks. Change water every day or two. Then reportidly no stratification is required.
