Sesamothamnus is a small genus of African deciduous caudiciform small trees and shrubs from the sesam family, Pedaliaceae. They have trunks that are swollen at the base, with sparsely spiny branches and ovate leaves. It is more closely related to Pterodiscus. The flowers are tubular, white to light yellow, generally with a tinge of pink. The flowers emerge in spring before the leaves. Keep dry when not in flower or without leaves. It requires regular watering when in its active growing season. Seeds should be sown into a sandy loam mix with good drainage. Add some gravel to the bottom of the seedling trays to aid in the drainage.
