Sesamum triphyllum belongs to the Pedaliaceae family. This perennial grows 100cm in height and has large striking brilliant blue trumpet shaped flowers with rose centres. Sesamum species are related to Sesamum orientale, the cultivated sesame seed. The seeds of Sesamum triphyllum are edible and rich in oil. Sesamum triphyllum is used in traditional medicine as an aphrodisiac where the leaves are mixed with milk.
