Title: Set Of Six Furstenberg Porcelain Butter Dishes. Manufacturer: Furstenberg, Germany, 1967. Diameter: Each plate 10 cm. Info: Blue "F" Mark on reverse with 0 31 87 stamps on plates. Das Ulenkoperdenkmal von Karlheinz Goedtke ist ein Geschenk der Uelzener Burger an ihre Stadt. Es wurde auf Anregung des Ratsherrn Peter Cordes vom Verkehrsverein Uelzen am 6 Mai 1967 errichtet.. Porzellanmanufaktur Fürstenberg was established on 11 January 1747 in Fürstenberg an der Weser by Johann Georg von Langen on behalf of Duke Carl I. of Brunswick-Wolfenbuettel. The production started after 6 years thanks to a technology brought by the artist who left Hochst. In 1753, the Duke ordered that in the future all porcelain items should be marked with a blue F. Figures produced in Furstenberg imitated those produced in Meissen. Some of Rococo style patterns are still produced in the original Furstenberg facility. In the 18th century Fürstenberg was one of two manufacturers allowed to have a sales outlet in Berlin. The second one was KPM. The 1770 - 90 period was the golden era of this manufacture. About 1775 there appeared neo-classical influences. In 1807 - 1813 Brunswick was occupied by Napoleon forces. In this period Furstenberg was the Royal Porcelain Manufactory. The Fürstenberg Porcelain factory is the second oldest German china producer. Older is only famous Meissen Porcelain Factory. In 1859, the manufactory was leased to private individuals and was finally converted into a public stock company in 1888. In 1966 it became a limited liability company (GmbH). The factory is still producing porcelain today.
The Ulenköper is a bronze statue in the Hanseatic city of Uelzen . The monument was designed by Karlheinz Goedtke and is a gift of the citizens to their city. It symbolizes the Ulenköpersage connected with the city and was solemnly unveiled on May 6, 1967.
The Ulenköper monument was created in the 1960's on the idea of Peter Cordes, a councilor and chairman of the tourist office Uelzen. Citizens and businesses in the city donated around 37,000 DM to finance it. It is located in the city center of Uelzen between St. Mary's Church and the old town hall. It is about 2.20 meters high and is made of bronze . The monument shows two male persons. One holds a sack from which an owl sticks out, while the other person counts the money received. The depiction is based on a legend, according to which a Uelzen merchant buys a sack full of Baarftgaans (barefoot goose) to a farmer from the country, which the merchant understands wrongly as a barcock (black grouse) and pays a handsome price. Later, he realizes his mistake and sues the peasant. However, he says in his defense that he has clearly sold "Baarftgaans" and that the fact that owls go barefoot can not be denied. The judge laughed and proved him right. Therefore, the Uelzener called to this day "Ulenköper", ie owl buyers. A rubbing on the coin of the statue and simultaneous jingling of change in the pocket should ensure that you always have enough money.
