SEVEN OLD JAN VAN RIEBEECK BANKNOTES FROM SOUTH AFRICAS SECOND (1966-1977) AND THIRD (1978-1991) ISSUES OF BANKNOTES.

When the South African Reserve Bank started issuing South African coins and notes in 1923, the currency was still in UK pounds. In 1961,the rand and the first decimal issue of notes was introduced. The First Issue (1961-1965) is known in short as the large Jan van Riebeeck Notes with Sailing Ships. BETWEEN 1948 TO 1977 NOTES WERE ISSUED IN TWO LANGUAGE VARIANTS AFRIKAANS OVER ENGLISH AND ENGLISH OVER AFRIKAANS.

The Second Issue (1966-1977) is known in short as smaller Jan van Riebeeck Notes with Protea and two language Afr over Eng and Eng over Afr variants.

The Third Issue (1978-1991) is known in short as smaller Jan van Riebeeck Notes with Protea and only one language Afr or Eng variants. The1978 series began with denominations of 2, 5 and 10 rand, with 20 and 50 rand introduced in 1984. This series saw a major design change. In addition, the series has only one variant for each denomination of note. Afrikaans was the first language on the 2, 10 and 50 rand, while English was the first language on 5 and 20 rand.

JAN VAN RIEBEECK OR SOMEONE ELSE?
There are an interesting true story of the portrait on 30 different old South African banknotes since 1948 to 1994.
Chiselled features, flowing locks and a manicured moustache. Its a face that has been immortalized in South African history books.
But, as it turns out, this portrait is not of Jan van Riebeeck, but most likely of another Dutch local Bartholomeus Vermuyden who never even set foot in South Africa.

THESE SEVEN NOTES ARE VALUED TOGETHER AT R400.
I AM ASKING R200 OR NEAREST OFFER.
