Seven Pillars of Wisdom is the autobiographical account of T. E. Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia), while serving as a military advisor to the Bedouin forces, during the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire (1916-18).
It was first published in 1926 as a subscribers edition of only 200 copies, with no further editions during his lifetime.
Lawrence died in a motorcycle accident in May 1935, at the age of 46: and within weeks of his death, the first edition was published.
In 1939, what was then termed to be a mass market edition of two volumes were issued, of which these have both remained
as excellent copies. Very rare to find both Vol 1 & 2 together, in such a very good condition.
Usual bumps and scuffs from the shelf and with previous owners name inside front cover of both books.
Otherwise pages are tightly bound, crisp and clean (please refer to photographs).
Small format hardcovers - and so far as I can glean from some in-depth research they were issued as is, and without dustjackets.
(I do stand to be corrected on this however?).
Beautifully illustrated throughout, a must for the connoisseur.
