SG 4 or 5 - 1840 - 2d Blue.- the TWO PENNY Blue.

A very attractive 2-3 margin copy of the twopenny blue of 1840  with a light and clear black maltese cross cancellation. It is lettered J LI. It is a darker shade than some I have seen. The normal "Blue" Shade was GBP675 in 2010 SG GB Concise catalogue, now GBP 850 in the 2012 one for a Very Fine copy. 

This is the first of the 2d Blues i.e. the 1840 one - without the white lines added in 1841

Most serious collectors want a Penny Black in their collections but this, the second stamp ever issued, is far less common. The 2d was supposed to come out at the same time as the 1d Black but due to printing/distribution problems usually appeatred a few days after 6 May 1840.
