Shade net % = how much sunlight it blocks. The rest gets through to your plants. Here's what each one is best for:
20% - 3mx50m - R1 753.29 incl Vat
- Blocks 20%, lets 80% light through
- Best for: Full-sun crops that just need light hail/UV protection. Think tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, melons, maize.
- Use when: You want to cut harsh midday sun and reduce wind/bird damage but still need strong light for fruiting.
40% - 3mx50m - R2 280.68 Incl Vat
- Blocks 40%, lets 60% light through
- Best for: Most leafy greens and herbs. Lettuce, spinach, swiss chard, kale, parsley, coriander. Also young seedlings.
- Use when: You need to prevent bolting and sunburn in summer. This is the most common % for general veggie gardens in SA.
60% - 3mx50m - R3,912.65 Incl Vat
- Blocks 60%, lets 40% light through
- Best for: Shade-loving plants and sensitive crops. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, ferns, orchids. Also good for hardening off seedlings.
- Use when: You have very hot, harsh sun or want to extend your cool-season crops into summer.
80% - 3mx50m - R4,728.57 Incl Vat
- Blocks 80%, lets 20% light through
- Best for: Not really for food crops. Used for nurseries, ornamental plants, orchids, ferns, livestock shelter, car ports.
- Use when: You need heavy shade/cooling. Most veggies wont fruit well under this. Too dark.
Quick rule: If it fruits = 20-30%. If its leaves = 40-50%. If it hates heat = 60%. 80% is for shade, not food.
