Father Ewan Dale looks after the Sylvanian orchards, cutting the grass and tidying up. He adores his Victoria plums and Cox's pippins, but despises most newer types.

Mother Barbara Dale is the family authority on all fruit plants. It's late autumn and early spring when she's in the orchard, pruning and reshaping all the fruit trees, late into the evening.

Winton Dale enjoys assisting his parents in the orchard. His favorite task is tending to the bonfire, but first he needs to pick up the leaves and twigs, which he finds tedious. But he is meticulous because he knows the more he collects, the bigger the bonfire!

Sister Iona Dale has been tasked with collecting and sorting all the fruit. She loves this part-time job over school since she may munch to her heart's content without fear of reprimand!
