The skinny:
Fire up Shellshock and count your blessings that you didn't turn 18 in the late '60s. Eidos bills its Vietnam War shooter as the gritty alternative to the other, happy-go-lucky titles that take place in America's dalliance in jungle warfare. You play as a new recruit, a "cherry" according to your CO, trying to make it through your tour without getting sniped, skewered with punji sticks or, even more fun, tortured to death by the enemy. Shellshock doesn't pull any punches when it comes to portraying life in the jungle.

Tantalizing tidbits:
Spend your time off in base camp hitting on the statuesque nurses in the infirmary, practicing your marksmanship on the shooting range or fueling your bloodlust by listening to the camp DJ spin Sonny and Cher. The developers included every possible battleground, including tunnels and river patrols. The action is based on attaining objectives that range from taking hills to assassinating enemy officers. If you get tired of the standard-issue U.S. Army weapons, you can take AKs and grenades off your enemies. Make sure to root through their pockets for loose change!
