Shipwreck Spanish Silver 8 Reales (Philip V)

We believe this large shipwreck coin was struck during the reign of Phillip V in the first half of the 1700s with the reverse showing the well-known Cross of Jerusalem.

Philip V was King of Spain from 1 November 1700 to 14 January 1724 and again from 6 September 1724 to his death in 1746.

The Spanish 8 Reales coins are famously known as "Pieces of Eight" due to their historical use as a currency, particularly in the old pirate tales.
