A mixed-media work on paper by Sidney Goldblatt (1919--1979). It is signed in the margin (bottom right) and in addition the artist's name appears reversed out of the image itself (bottom left). On the back the artist has written: "opus 2 F Family Group 6 gns" (see close-up photo of a photocopy of this). Presumably "6 gns" refers to the original selling price.

The technique used by Goldblatt to create "Family Group" is uncertain, but it may be one of the works that he produced in the 1960s which Esmé Berman refers to as "collage-composition[s], incorporating sections of painted canvas and engraved linoleum" (Art and Artists of South Africa, p. 183). Although the work is on black paper, much of the image area has a fabric-like texture, suggesting that it was transferred onto the paper from canvas or a similar material.

"Family Group" is in its original frame with grey fabric covering the mount. The size of the image area is 193 x 253 mm.
