Signature Stratton Ballet Compact: Signed by Artist Cecil Golding vintage 1950’s VERY collectible
The Stratton Ballet series signed by artist Cecil Golding are very desirable and collectible compacts. Research suggests that this compact is from the late 1950’s and is one of a series of ballet compacts where the original ballet drawings were by American Artist Cecil Golding. Cecil Golding gave Stratton sole right to reproduce three drawings of the ballet Les Sylphides. This particular image is a very distinctive movement from pas de deux in this ballet known as the Waltz, in which he is on one knee, while she rests on his shoulder and leans forward displaying her full ballet skirt. The lid is decorated with an enamelled background of iridescent dark blue/purple and features two dancers in subtle shades of black, white and grey, signed Cecil Golding. Inside there is a round mirror, marked with the classic patent no. 764125 around the mirror. Comes with a powder sifter and powder puff and as a convertible is suitable for use with either loose or compressed face powder.
CONDITION: This compact is in superb condition and appears to have never been used. Cecil Golding’s signature is really only visible when bright light is reflected over the signature due to the dark background. The lid does have light wear scratches and the powder puff seems to have very light signs of use on one side. The mirror is like new and the overall condition is stunning.
PRICING: I am struggling to find any of the same at present but have seen them selling for well over $200 US (from R2110.00). Very difficult to find in this sort of condition.
