Hardcover first published 1977 by William Kimber & Co. Limited. The jacket is whole, but worn and sunned in places, with wear and chipping along edges, and tape marks on flaps. Original green cloth with gilt spine titling. Further tape marks to pastedowns, and pages yellowed along edges. A paper clip has left an impression at the top of the first few pages, and is still in place. It holds a scrap of paper with a note referring to a page showing a particular Sopwith aircraft. It is very likely that this note was written by Edmund Pierce, a fellow ace who flew with Rochford, and who is mentioned in the book. There are further pencil handwritten notes by the same writer in places throughout the book, providing further evidence of his identity. Taped in to the rear is a copy of a menu, on the back of which  is written by E. Pierce "A party given to me on leaving No.3 Squadron 203 R.A.F.". He mentions that a name appearing on the menu is that of W.W. Goodman of United States Air Service, who further served during World War Two.
