This book deals mainly with the illegal ivory and teak trade from South-Eastern Angola that was conducted to finance UNITA, and condoned by the South African military and nature conservation officials. Jan Breytenbach was a senior SADF officer (who led the attack on Kassinge - which he tries to justify in the book), and later a nature conservation official in Namibia who unsuccessfully attempted to stop this trade.
