 Emmaleen Kriel changed her life and went in search of adventure.   But she was particularly brave as she was already a grandmother, a mother of seven and had only her domestic skills to offer.  She went to the United Kingdom and became a cook, domestic worker and carer to a number of interesting and sometimes difficult characters. 

 This book is the story of her experiences, and slow to start.  I nearly put it down but the novel gets a second wind and had me laughing and my heart aching for some of the sadder characters and moments.

 Kriel came to realise how inconsiderately she had treated her own domestic workers and wrote an open letter of apology.  This letter had interesting repercussions worldwide.  For anyone who has ever been an employer of a cook, carer or cleaner this is a worthwhile read.  It is not designed to make you feel guilty but it does just make you think again.
